Villas Student Housing has broken ground on a planned 30-story tower in Austin’s West Campus neighborhood. The skyscraper at 2313 Rio Grande Street will replaced longtime student favorite restaurant Cain and Abel's on the corner of 24th and Rio Grande streets.
Designed by Austin's Rhode Partners, the 340,000-square-foot building will have will have 199 residential units and 670 beds, two levels of below-ground parking, and three levels of above-ground parking . It will also have a hotel-style reception and lounge area, study spaces, a package room, an indoor/outdoor fitness center, a resort-style swimming pool, a spa, and a basketball court.
The construction cost of the student housing project, which is expected to be completed in 2025, is $85 million. It does not yet have a name.
The project team includes includes interior designer Ariel Bleich, contractor Rogers O’Brien, DCI Engineers, Bleyl Engineering, V3 Consulting Engineers, Terracon, and landscape architect Blu Fish Collaborative.
