Improvements to Rainey Street Trailhead, the portal to both urban mayhem and bucolic semi-tranquility, got a big reveal Friday, officially opening with a public celebration of the completion of the Trail Conservancy's ambitious makeover.

The trailhead now connects  a new two-acre park with the Ann and Roy Butler Hike-and-Bike Trail. The whole package features a 10,250 square-foot main lawn, a nature-based playscape, a multi-use floating dock on Lady Bird Lake, shaded seating, and enhanced lighting along pathways that connect the neighborhood to the Trail.

The $1.13 million project took a year to complete.
