A homebuilding platform that hopes to streamline the process, for would-be buyers stymied by the city's home prices and low inventory, has launched in the Austin market. BuiltBy Den, the homebuilding platform of cabin designer Den Outdoors,.manages the building process for residential buyers, including the design, land selection, permitting process, project management, and construction.

The company focuses on buyers who might have trouble buying a home due to a combination of cost and a lack of availability driven by the city's booming population. "As a result of accelerated growth following the pandemic, Austin is faced with some new challenges when it comes to housing," said Den Outdoors' Michael Romanowicz.

Den takes a tech-focused approach to the process with an online "concierge" and a range of designs for freestanding homes, measuring from 200 square feet to almost 3,500 square feet and including studios and one- to three-bedroom floor plans. The company says its process can take less than a year, as opposed to one to two years, the average for the region.

Den has partnered with local construction companies Skelly Build and Carr Residential but has not specified what brokers it might use. It plans to break ground on its first build next month.
