Given the city's seeming obsession with the “sport,” it’s unsurprising that the report declares Austin America's Pickleball Capital of 2024.
The industry report ranks the city the first of its top 10 pickleball cities in the U.S. for this year, finding that "Austin's pickleball scene has exploded, with over 100 pickleball facilities within the city limits and several competitive leagues running throughout the year - including the Austin Pickleball League (APL) for competitive ladder play.”
Based on USA Pickleball and local association estimates, it continues:
Austin Metro Pickleball Association (AMPA) has approximately 3,000-3,500 registered members. An estimated 15,000-20,000 people play pickleball at least occasionally in the greater Austin area.The active, regular player base (playing at least twice monthly) is estimated at around 8,000-10,000 players. Court reservation systems consistently show 70-80% utilization during peak hours. Local facilities report growing waitlists for prime playing times.
