The Austin Parks and Recreation Department’s Oakwood Cemetery will present a new online exhibit that explores historical and contemporary Tejano organizations, their accomplishments, and their journeys of advocating for social change in Texas.
“Unificar, to Unite” “tells the stories of multiple generations of Tejano social justice leaders in English and Spanish.
To celebrate the new exhibit, the Oakwood Cemetery Chapel will holda workshop, called “Unificando Hoy (Uniting Today),” Saturday, July 27, at 1601 Navasota Street in Central East Austin.
Tejano community organizers from various Texas organizations will conduct workshop sessions teaching attendees how to organize within their communities, leading discussions on advocacy, and sharing insights on working behind the scenes on social and political movements.
The event is free to attend, and free parking is available at the cemetery.
