A two-building data center on a former Sears call center site in Round Rock is halfway complete.
Washington-based Sabey Data Centers completed the first building of SDC Austin, its new data center campus in Round Rock, the 120,000-person suburban city north of Austin.
Sabey broke ground on the 430,000-square-foot center in July 2022, six months after the Round Rock City Council approved an economic development agreement that grants tax incentives to the developer. Upon completion, the 40-acre campus at 1300 Louis Henna Boulevard will have a second, 105,000-square-foot building.
The project is engineered to accommodate liquid cooling and high-density computing environments, supporting up to 200 kW per cabinet, according to the company, and will provide up to 84 MW of critical power capacity.
Its development agreement requires that Sabey invest at least $185 million in property enhancements and $5 million in new equipment and business personal property on the project. The company must also create a minimum of 20 primary jobs within a five-year period.
