Citing “some question and concern,” city staffers have put the kibosh on a proposal to increase entry fees at “specialty” city pools. City officials said in a memo that they would bring an amendment to return pool entry fees to their current amounts, KXAN reported.
The city’s draft budge for fiscal year 2024-25 draft budget outlined the potential price hike on seasonal entry fees at Bartholomew, Barton Springs, Deep Eddy, Springwoods, Northwest, and Garrison pools, according to the local NBC affiliate. Passage of that proposal would have increased fees from $5 to $8 for resident adults.
The proposed price increase followed a city-led cost-of service-analysis, which put the actual cost of service for city pool maintenance closer to $16 per person, a city spokesperson told KXAN.
Current fees for pools are:
* Children under one year old: free for residents and non-residents
* Children ages 1-11 years old: $2 for residents and $4 for non-residents
* Juniors ages 12-17 years old: $3 for residents and $5 for non-residents
* Adults ages 18 to 62 years old: $5 for residents and $9 for non-residents
* Seniors ages 62 and older: $2 for residents and $5 for non-residents
* Veterans, honorably discharged: free for residents and non-residents
