Austin is among the 20 cities with the most robust home-building construction activity in the nation, a new report says.
Austin took 15th place on the list from MoveBuddha, a website that tracks moving company data. Dallas took the No. 10 spot, and Houston came in at No. 17
According to the survey:
- So far this year, Austin has built 10,880 new homes, which averages out to 1,116.5 new homes per 100,000 residents.
- Austin's Zillow Home Value average was $557,292 in July — down 9.8% from last year. A slew of new home construction could be one of many reasons why prices are moderating or declining as new supply meets demand.
- Of the 10,880 new homes built in Austin this year 4,810 are single-family homes, and 6,070 are multiunit residential homes.
- Of the three Texas cities to make the list, Austin has by far the most expensive residential housing market. Dallas ($309,000) and Houston ($262,000) are much more affordable housing markets among major Texas cities.
The South and the Sunbelt dominated the top 20 list of best cities for new homes, with Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, taking the top spot. Other Southern cities in the top 20 include six Florida cities, No. 5 Atlanta, and No. 12 Nashville.
