California-based investment and management firm Pacific Hospitality Group announced in a January press that it will renovate the 194-room Viata resort hotel, formerly the Hotel Granduca, in northwest Austin.

The 190,000-square-foot retreat on 38 acres at 320 South Capital of Texas Highway, about 10 miles from downtown Austin, was rebranded Hotel Viata after an extensive renovation completed in fall 2022.

The planned 2024 renovations sound pretty similar, and will be headed by the same design and construction teams, with the same timelines:

The project includes the addition of a new spa, an overhaul of the restaurant and bar and renovations to the pool deck and lobby. The design and construction team consists of interior design firm Hotel Studio, McCabe Architecture, Digney York Associates and PHG. The hotel will remain open during renovations, which will begin in June and are expected to be complete in the fall.

Hotel Granduca has 194 rooms, including 38 suites with small kitchenettes and living rooms. It also has meeting space and a chapel for weddings, conventions, and events.

The Italianate resort is part of the Meritage Collection of Pacific Hospitality Group, based in Irvine, California. Houston-based Interfin Companies developed the hotel in a joint venture with Austin-based Riverside Resources. PHG bought it in 2020 and performed the 2022 renovation.
