Massively popular Texas grocery chain H-E-B plans a new store at the intersection of McKinney Falls Parkway and William Cannon Drive in southeast Austin. Several other new stores, renovations, and a $1 million gift to support affordable are also in the works, the company announced Wednesday. Construction is slated to start next year, and the store is expected to open late 2027.
Rapid growth in southeast Austin has spurred development of residential properties as well as projects to serve the new communities. H-E-B donated $1 million to Austin Habitat for Humanity to support two affordable housing projects in East Austin, efforts “to help spur additional development” that are "aligned with community investments,” according to the retailer.
Part of the donation will support Habitat’s project at Persimmon Point, a 126-unit complex currently under construction near the planned H-E-B at McKinney Falls. The gift will also support the nonprofit’s affordable housing project, with 50 single-family homes, in the Whisper Valley planned community south of H-E-B’s Manor store.
H-E-B has 12 major projects in the pipeline— six new stores and six renovations — for the Austin area. The company has started construction on a 106,000-square-foot store in Manor, which it expects to open in late 2025. Stores in Georgetown and San Marcos are set to open in 2025 and 2026, respectively. The chain recently opened its third Plfugerville store and will open its new South Congress Avenue in central Austin Dec. 4.
The company recently finished renovations and expansion at the Tech Ridge H-E-B at Parmer Lane and I-35, and the retailer has plans to update and expand the Ed Bluestein H‑E‑B, a project set to start in 2026. It also has plans for store renovations in Kyle, Bastrop, and other Austin-area locations.
