Neighbors weighing in on proposal to rezone three residential properties to allow the development of a new office space in East Austin’s Pecan Springs-Springdale have caused a property owner to reconsider plans for the site
In addition to submitting a valid petition of protest, neighbors voiced their opposition to the rezoning of 6102, 6106, and 6108 Cherrylawn Circle at the Dec. 10 meeting of the Austin Planning Commission. Opponents, including the Pecan Springs-Springdale Neighborhood Association and the East MLK Neighborhood Plan Contact Team,.said owner/applicant Emerson Smith’s plan to move his tech company’s offices to Cherrylawn Circle is inappropriate for the residential cul-de-sac. Speakers also cited concerns about increased traffic, insufficient parking, and nighttime safety.
With Smith and his team agreeing to revisit and possibly revise the proposal, commissioners voted 10-1-1 to postpone the case to their Jan. 14 meeting, with Commissioner Grayson Cox against and Commissioner Adam Haynes abstaining.
