Taller buildings with more allowable density could soon be headed to the 2,300-acre Domain planned community, North Austin's answer to downtown.

The Austin City Council in February approved Domain representative's rezoning request to allow redevelopment of 47 acres in the mixed-use neighborhood. The council increased the allowable building height to 420 feet and revised limitations on the maximum number of future dwelling units, increasing the floor-to-area ratio, a measure to 12:1 to allow more density.

The change will facilitate the addition of shopping, residential, hotel, industrial and office space to some areas of the development. New commercial and multifamily development will require reapproval of the area's site plan through the city’s Development Services Department,.
