Austin Parks and Recreation is seeking participation in community engagement for the first two phases of its George Washington Carver Museum, Cultural and Genealogy Center’s facility expansion.
Phase 1 improvements are identified in the George Washington Carver Museum, Cultural and Genealogy Center Facility Expansion Plan approved by the Austin City Council in 2021. Phase 1a will explore relocating the administrative area to a new upper level to expand the available area for community-oriented programming near the main entry.
Phase 1b focuses on outdoor spaces and site improvements that include outdoor classrooms, renovations of existing public restrooms, and a new event lawn with a covered pavilion.
Public input "will help shape welcoming, inclusive spaces that reflect our community’s diverse cultural heritage and vision,” reads a city press release. "Through community meetings and surveys, you can share your thoughts on how the museum can best serve you and future generations."
An online engagement meeting will take place Saturday, December 7, followed by an in-person meeting Tuesday, December 10. Both will be at George Washington Carver Museum, Cultural and Genealogy Center, 1165 Angelina Street.
