Austin's Urban Forest Grant Program is looking for an artist to work on an initiative that combines often-referenced imagery from a traditional game and locally focused dendrology.

With a grant of $20,000,, the Tree Lotería Illustration Project is "aimed at celebrating the intersection of art, culture, and nature in Central Texas," say program materials. It's inspired by Lotería, a Bingo-like game that originated in 18th century Spain and went on to become an iconic part of Mexican culture.

The city is looking for an artist to adapt the imagery used in Lotería's cards and game boards to illustrate 54 tree species native to the area for the project, with the goal of increasing awareness and inspiring stewardship of the local environment.
