A new mixed-income community offering 80 apartments is open in Brentwood. The City of Austin Housing Department, Saigebrook Development, and O-SDA Industries developed June West, the 1.13-acre multifamily property at 1200 West Koenig Lane and celebrated its grand opening Monday.
June West has studios and one-, two-, and three-bedroom units serving families with incomes ranging from 30 percent to 80 percent of area median family income. Community amenities include includes a children’s playroom, a clubhouse with a community room, a cyber lounge, a fitness center, and bicycle parking. All common spaces are designed for people with limited mobility, and all units are fully adaptable and served by elevators.
"By offering housing options for diverse income levels, this community enriches North Austin and provides sustainable living spaces for residents to take pride in” the Housing Department’s Mandy DeMayo said.
Construction on June West began in September 2022, after city approval of a $3.7 million loan agreement with the Austin Housing Finance Corporation. Funding for the loan comes from the 2006 and 2018 General Obligation Bonds and the Rental Housing Development Assistance program along with 9 percent low-income housing tax credits from the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs program with assistance from Hudson Housing Capital. Capital One, Legacy Bank & Trust, and the Texas Affordable Housing Corporation provided additional loans.
Developers commissioned work from local and Texas artists for common areas of June West. Artists include sculptor Jonas Criscoe and muralists Priscilla Lustig, Alannah Tiller, Becca Gordon, and Alex Saxon.
June West participated in the city SMART Housing program, which is designed to stimulate production of housing for low- and moderate-income Austinites by providing fee waivers for development permits in exchange for onsite income-restricted units. One of the requirements for this program is that all units meet Austin Energy Green Building Program standards.
