Not long after announcing it was bringing the first mini-golf course of its type in Central Texas with an Austin venue, PopStroke Entertainment Group has opened a 10,000-square-foot venue in College Station, about 100 miles from the Texas capital. It’s PopStroke’s third Texas location and its 14th in the nation.
The new facility for Florida-based PopStroke — a Tiger Woods-backed enterprise — was designed by Austin’s Mark Odom Studio, which also collaborated with PopStroke on the Pitch in Austin.
As with the Austin facility, the venue’s four buildings were built out of shipping containers — maroon and white ones in this case, of course — a concept Odom first introduced at the Pitch. A total of eight containers were used to create a composition of four buildings — with one container oriented vertically as a primary wayfinding element. The golf-centric venue has a centralized courtyard with a full-service bar and kitchen, yard games, and outdoor dining/lounge seating with views of the mini-golf course.
The design team also incorporated a shade trellis into the design, providing relief from the Texas sun as well as the opportunity to soften the composition of rigid boxes and reinforce the connection between the hospitality area, beer garden, and the mini-golf course.
In addition to Mark Odom, the firm’s Jon Dasher is on the design team. Mark Odom. ResCon Group is the builder, LEAP! Structures is the structural engineer, MPW Engineering is the MEP engineer, and Britten is the container vendor.
