The expansion to Ronald Reagan Boulevard has begun in Williamson County, home of Round Rock, Georgetown, and other suburbs with ever-increasing populations north of Austin.
Contractors will build a new two-lane roadway intended to serve southbound traffic from FM 3405 to state Hwy. 29, according to a news release, and then convert the current two-way road to for northbound traffic only.
Voters approved funding for the $52.1 million project in 2019 as part of the Williamson County Road Bond, which totaled $412 million.
The Texas Department of Transportation, local developers, and the city of Georgetown also contributed to right-of-way and utility relocation costs.
Construction on the section of Ronald Reagan Boulevard is expected to be finished by summer 2027, but the heavily trafficked corridor could see more expansion in the future. Other planned projects near the boulevard include connection from it to state Hwy. 183 north of Liberty Hill; increasing the width of several feeder roads near the road, including CR 175; construction on Hero Way and RM 2243 from the 183A Toll to the Southwest Bypass, including connections to the corridor.
