The (as of now) small city of Taylor, about 40 miles northeast of Austin, is certainly not sleeping on cultivating development around the $17 billion Samsung semiconductor plan under construction in the area.
The Taylor City Council on August 8 voted its unanimous approval on a proposal and economic development agreement for a $225 million data center project. The city will grant tax rebates to Austin’s BPP Projects, the data center owner-operator. The center will be built on 52 acres of city-owned land, in three phases of constructio delivering 45,000 square feet of space each. Construction could begin as soon as next summer.
The council approved a 10-year, 50 percent tax rebate for each phase of construction. BPP will also receive a 50 percent rebate on the local use tax collected on materials used during construction.
The city’s economic development department expects the project to generate more than $1 billion in capital investment for the region over the next decade.
